SAM.gov registration is free — here's the official path
Registering, renewing, or updating your business in SAM.gov costs $0. The government keeps it free, every time. The official site is https://sam.gov — look for the .gov ending.
The official free path
- Gather your details: legal business name and physical address exactly as on your IRS EIN letter and state records, your EIN, bank details for payments, and your NAICS codes (census.gov/naics).
- Sign in at sam.gov with a Login.gov account (multifactor authentication on).
- Get Started → Register Entity. Choose "financial assistance only" for grants, or "all awards" for grants and contracts.
- Receive your Unique Entity ID (UEI) during registration, then complete the remaining sections and submit.
- Track your status on SAM.gov. Official emails come from @sam.gov or @gsa.gov addresses.
- Renew every year. Registration lasts 365 days; renewing is free too.
Stay safe
- Messages asking you to pay to register, renew, or "fix errors" are not from the government. GSA and the BBB both warn about these.
- Keep your Login.gov password to yourself, always.
